QualiAnon is a semi-automated tool for the anonymization or pseudonymization of text data, which the Qualiservice research data center offers free of charge for the flexible anonymization or pseudonymization of text-based research data at your own desk or in the repository in compliance with data protection regulations.
The technical implementation of QualiAnon was carried out in cooperation between Qualiservice and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Pfeffer, Dr. Mirco Schönfeld and Wienke Strathern (Chair of Computational Social Science at the Technical University of Munich and the Munich School of Public Policy and PANGAEA).
Based on this version, QualiAnon was further developed technically by Dr. Tom Nicolai (PANGAEA).
The source code of QualiAnon is now available to all interested parties on GitHub.
With the publication of the source code, QualiAnon is accessible as Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The licensing of the software under the Apache License 2.0 allows the free use, modification and redistribution of the source code. This enables interested parties to adapt the program to their individual needs. The Qualiservice team invites everyone to further develop QualiAnon together via Github or in their own projects.
We welcome feedback and user experiences. For more information and the option to download, please use our GitHub repository at: https://github.com/pangaea-data-publisher/qualianon
If you have any questions, please contact us at qualianon@uni-bremen.de.
You can find a brief introduction to the software in the QualiAnon user manual, the QualiAnon Wiki or in the IASSIST webinar on “De-identification of qualitative data” from minute 19:07.
We continue to receive many requests for QualiAnon user workshops, so we will soon be offering open workshops on how to use the program. The first one will take place on June 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom (registration). Further information will be published on our website.
